Our team will be serving with Youth Unlimited while in Chennai. The main focus will be to serve in the Steps home for abandoned girls. They will spend several days serving them by working in their home, tutoring, leading Bible studies and various other experiences. There is an opportunity to provide worship, drama, and the sharing of testimonies in a local slum church. They will also work in Mother Theresa’s home for the challenged where the team will help feed and comfort differently-abled children. They will also have the experience of caring for abandoned elderly by listening to their stories and praying with them.
The Senegal team will spend a day working on a farm where local farmers learn about sustainability. Students will also serve at a combination school/orphanage for a day where they may do some light labor and visit with the students. There is also a possibility that the BFA students will work aboard the YWAM ship that is docked in Dakar. Students will also have an opportunity to visit a bush village where they plan to have a program for children. They will also visit the “door of no return” on the island of Goree (from which slaves were shipped from Africa). Senegal is 95% Islamic country, so clothing must be modest and headscarves are required for women in certain places. Participants should have a healthy spiritual life and be okay with some cultural restrictions. With French being the official language of Senegal, French speakers are appreciated!
This team will be serving at Rehoboth Children’s Village. This ministry is home to orphaned children that are affected by HIV/AIDS. This home is located in the KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa. The team will help with maintenance projects in the mornings and participating in sports, games & outreach with the kids in the afternoons. There are over 75 children living in the Rehoboth Children’s Village in 15 different homes.
This team will be partnering with local ministries and working primarily with elementary age kids. The team will stay at the Sole Hope guest house and serve in their ministry which provides medical treatment and shoes for locals. If time allows, they will help on a “shoe outreach”. In addition, the team will work at Davis Christian Academy, a local school, as well with Heal Ministries by providing activities and care for kids from slum areas. This team will also attend Amazima Church on Sunday. Be prepared for lots of walking and spending time with people!
This team will partner with the ministry Orphan Voice. Orphan Voice is a Christian, wholistic child development ministry devoted to orphans, children with special needs and children at risk for trafficking and sexual abuse in Southeast Asia. The team will provide care for orphans, participate in special needs therapy, deaf education, family preservation, and medical outreach. This team will also participate in simple building projects and provide a cultural exchange experience with the goal of bringing the world to the children at the Orphan Voice home.
This team will be coming alongside The Boaz Project doing a VBS program at an orphanage in Vladimir, Russia (outside of Moscow). Students will be paired up with “ministry partners” as well as with an interpreter to communicate. Students will then be the “teachers” for a group of kids from the orphanage. Each group will continue interacting with their group in the afternoons.
