Welcome to Black Forest Academy.

Whether you are new to BFA or have been around for a while, we are guessing that you’re reading this page because at some level or other you are interested in how the school is governed. Not everyone cares about that sort of thing, but you won’t be surprised to know that we do—and we are glad that you do too!

The BFA Board understands its primary purpose as ensuring that the organization performs well for its moral owners. Simple enough, but obviously there’s quite a bit of content behind those few words. In short, this is our philosophy of governance:

Mindful of its obligations to God and Scripture, the board will govern lawfully, observing the principles of the Policy Governance model, with an emphasis on (a) outward vision rather than internal preoccupation, (b) encouragement of diversity in viewpoints, (c) strategic leadership more than administrative detail, (d) clear distinction of board and chief executive roles, (e) collective rather than individual decisions, (f) future rather than past or present, and (g) pro-activity rather than reactivity.

The Board is comprised of trustees representing a variety of backgrounds and professional experiences. Some of us are school alums, some past or current parents, others simply friends of the school, all serving as volunteers. What binds us together is our commitment to the long-term viability of Black Forest Academy, embedded in a wider commitment to the cause of excellence in Christian education around the globe.
