BFA’s Location

We are privileged to call the town of Kandern home.

Nestled in the southwestern corner of the German Black Forest (Schwarzwald), Kandern is small and picturesque, surrounded by rolling hills and dozens of hiking trails. With low levels of traffic, clean and well-lit streets, and a conscientious and friendly German community, Kandern enjoys a high level of security and safety and a slower pace of life for which we are grateful. Despite our rural setting, Kandern still offers easy access to the historic cities of Freiburg and Basel, the French region of Alsace, and the Swiss Alps just over an hour away.

We are indeed ‘home to the world’, sitting at a geographical crossroads for many of the families we serve. There are two international airports within short reach – Basel (25 mins) and Zürich (75 mins) – making BFA easily accessible for the many students and families who travel thousands of miles to join our community each year.
