After years of prayer, generosity, and preparation, Black Forest Academy is delighted to celebrate the opening of Trinity Haus, its new triple dorm in Kandern.
Along with beloved dorms HBR and Storch, Trinity Haus is also home to Haus Alsace, BFA’s newest and seventh dorm. With its opening, BFA has reached a significant milestone: for the first time in our history, all seven dorms are located in Kandern, and every boarding student can now walk to and from school.
BFA celebrated the journey to Trinity Haus in a special way during its 70th anniversary celebration in May. The HBR boys walked from their dorm to Holzen, where they met the Storch girls, and together they continued toward Kandern. Each dorm carried a beloved item from its former home—pieces of its history now prominently displayed in their new spaces at Trinity Haus.
As the students approached Kandern, members of the BFA community gathered on the bridge behind campus to welcome them. From there, everyone walked together to Trinity Haus for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
During the ceremony, Head of School Phil Dow reflected on the remarkable story behind the project and the many ways God provided when the path forward seemed impossible.
“Outside of God’s intervention, we didn’t see a viable way forward,” he shared.
BFA welcomed students back on campus for the start of the 2026/27 school year and the first students to call Haus Alsace home. From the top floor, this dorm has a beautiful view of Kandern and the Black Forest.
BFA is deeply grateful for the many individuals, families, alumni, churches, and friends who helped make this God-sized vision of opening a new dorm in Kandern a reality.
