Everything on purpose, according to His purposes

BFA 2030 is our Strategic Vision for the future of our school. It sets our key priorities and goals, assigns clear accountability, and gives our departments the freedom to determine the best way to achieve them. Guided by our School Leadership Team, this work is organized around six components, each designed to elevate both learning and student life at BFA.

Explore each component below to see what we’re aiming for and how we plan to get there.

Affordability for Missionary Families

BFA will make measurable progress towards “affordable excellence for MKs” – a central aim of BFA as seen in the school’s Global Ends Statement.

BFA’s Global Ends Statement explicitly calls us to deliver excellence in transformational Christian education at a cost that empowers global mission initiatives. Affordability is not an afterthought or a secondary value—it is core to effectively serving missionary families worldwide. Affordability removes obstacles to mission and positions the school to serve even more missionary kids into the next decade without compromising excellence.

Goals

    • Debt Reduction — A stronger financial foundation.

Reduce debt by €2,150,000 (40%) by 2030.

    • Boarding Affordability — Holding the line on cost.

Freeze boarding rates for the 2027-28 school year, with the intent to hold rates steady in 2028-29 and 2029-30, subject to annual review.

    • Affordability with Excellence — Financial accessibility without sacrificing quality.

Our budget puts excellence in academics, facilities, and extracurriculars first, alongside a strong commitment to affordability and debt reduction.

Intentional and Visibly Effective Biblical Integration

By 2030, BFA will have a clearly documented, schoolwide approach to biblical worldview integration that is evident in all classes and is being regularly and systematically reviewed for effectiveness.

To ensure our students are equipped to discern and apply truth through the lens of a biblical worldview, we will intentionally develop strategies across all content areas and grade levels.

Goals

    • One Shared Approach — Biblical Worldview Essential Questions for every course.

We’ve developed Essential Questions that highlight connections to Biblical truth in the curriculum maps for all courses (underway since spring 2026) and we are equipping teachers with ongoing training in planning, teaching, and assessment.

    • Built-In Accountability — Reflecting on our practice, every year.

Academic leaders will guide teachers in reflecting on the effectiveness of the application of Biblical worldview in the classroom. This reflection will also be included in the curriculum review process and in year-end discussions between teachers and principals.

    • Continuous Improvement — Measuring student growth and learning from the results.

We’ll continue to gather feedback and assessment data, including ACSI’s Flourishing Faith Index and our own Intellectual Virtues Assessment, to gain insight into students’ growth and the impact of our strategies for biblical integration. Each year, we’ll use the results to improve.

Academic Excellence Guided by Curriculum Review

We are implementing a yearly cycle of curriculum review. By 2030, this process will be fully integrated across all subjects, utilizing curriculum mapping software and data analysis to drive growth toward our curricular standards, Expected Student Outcomes (ESOs), and effective biblical worldview integration (BWI).

A consistent, comprehensive review cycle will enable us to measure how effectively we are accomplishing BFA’s mission, and specifically the ESOs, in the classroom. Through this review process, we will keep the curriculum documents updated and accurate, maintaining consistent high quality teaching and learning.

Goals

    • Accuracy and Alignment — Every course, clearly mapped.

We will train teachers on a new curriculum mapping platform and build its regular use into teacher expectations, so every current course is accurately documented and aligned to content standards and BWI essential questions.

    • Ongoing Integrated Reflection — Regular review of course maps.

Academic leaders will guide teachers in periodic reflection on their course maps, focusing on content standards, BWI Essential Questions, and ESOs. Each teacher’s Year-End Debrief with principals will review these elements.

    • A Steady Review Rhythm — Every subject, on a schedule.

We’ll review two academic subject areas each year through our Curriculum Review Process, ensuring each subject area is reviewed every 5-6 years. This process draws on BFA’s mission and vision, the needs of its learners, and current research in education, providing a standard framework for review that guides decisions on curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

    • Mission at the Center — ESOs woven into the curriculum.

We will embed ESOs in the review process alongside content standards and biblical integration Essential Questions, adopting a common integration approach, documenting strategies in every course map, and identifying ESO connections.

Forming Christ-honoring Heads, Hearts, and Hands

BFA will effectively integrate the Expected Student Outcomes (ESOs) into the life and culture of the school.

The ESOs express BFA’s vision for our graduates and provide a long-term and actionable bridge that links our Christian educational mission to our day-to-day programming.

Goals

    • Working Together — Every division, one shared plan.

Across school departments, we will identify natural connections for each department and assign integrations for each to develop.

    • ESOs in Every Corner — Woven into all of BFA learning and life.

Leadership will complete an action plan for integrating the ESOs in spring 2027 and begin implementation in the fall.

    • Growth We Can Measure — Learning from the results.

Leadership will plan and implement ESO assessment in 2027-28, and share results with the BFA community in spring 2028. By fall 2028, we will analyze assessment results and use the findings to make program changes necessary to strengthen ESO implementation.

From Rooted Students to Flourishing Alumni

We will establish integrated strategies that maximize BFA and TCK experiences.

These strategies will equip students to become flourishing alumni who influence their world for Christ.

Goals

    • Room to Process — A place to make sense of the TCK experience.

We will continue to improve spaces where students can process their identity as TCKs and work through their experiences — integrating these opportunities directly into class trips, small groups, World Views & Bible 12, and the Senior Transition Seminar.

    • Ready for What’s Next — Preparing students for life at and after BFA.

We will use BFA survey data and broader TCK and cultural research to improve existing programs that serve students while at BFA – as well as after they graduate.

Continuity in Care, Creativity in Culture.

We will establish consistent guidelines and procedures across all of our dorms while allowing space for unique cultures and traditions to flourish.

This will enable us to enhance our staff training and provide a consistent experience for every dorm student.

Goals

    • One Standard, Many Homes — Consistent care in every dorm.

We will develop clear and consistent expectations for staff, students, and facilities in every dorm. This will guide staff training while preserving each dorm’s unique culture and traditions.

    • Developing Our Staff — Training that builds on itself.

We will build a continuing education model centered on core competencies. We’ll launch a training calendar for RAs and Dorm Parents and offer a toolkit of resources to support ongoing growth.
